Early Spring in the Garden, 2016

Every year I feel like I never take enough good photos of the garden, and this year I hope to change that.

I took photography classes last year so I could get better at it. But the camera stayed in its bag nearly all winter, and I've gotten rusty. So spring is a new beginning, both with my camera and with the growing earth.

In the Midwest, early spring is a tiny thing. You have to get down on your knees, really put your face right into it, to see it.

Everyday miracles like these are fleeting as much as they are small. I want to make sure I notice them.

Every week is completely different, as the primary colors shift from white to brown, brown to green, green to yellow, yellow to rainbow.

"I think this is what hooks one into gardening: it is the closest one can come to being present at creation."

  1. Nice photos! I have similar thoughts when the flowers start to come out. Mostly, I wish I could somehow consume the experience more. Spring flowers are so fleeting.
