My Aunt Karen used to have one, just like this one in blue, but it was a tabletop style lamp, rather than a hanging one. I wonder what happened to it. I've seen others in purple, a more burgundy red, and amber glass (or lucite).
When my Wild Imagination (yes, capitalized. It tends to be demanding that way) gets going, it thinks it would be great to have a kitschy wine bar hung full of these, like crazy jumbo party lights. I mean picture it: Dean Martin, candles stuck in chianti bottles, wine barrel tables, baskets of those crispy breadsticks in the paper wrappers..... But since this one is being offered for $149 and others I've seen on line are in that price range, it would be some serious dough to get that daydream into reality.

I never realized Aunt Karen's was a lamp. I don't think I ever saw it on.
ReplyDeleteNow you have me second guessing myself. I always thought it was? I think you're right though. Even if it had a light bulb, it was never on. I've seen these lights with matching knick-knackery....
DeleteThat last lamp is GLORIOUS! I'd totally have one of those grape lamps (and oooh! what you said about tons of them over a bar!) but only if someone else would dust them.

DeleteMy sister-in-law had one--bought in 1969--it was neat. Soft colored light from within. (not really good as a light source) Steve and I got it out last fall and the plastic leaves were brittle and breaking, as was the plastic on the power cord. Too bad. We didn't feel inclined to fix it, but it was cool.
